Overview

Jun Njan Restaurant, nestled on Jl. Batu Ceper in Central Jakarta, stands as a venerable name within the city’s seafood dining scene. This establishment, known for its classic Chinese-inspired seafood dishes, offers a culinary experience that evokes nostalgia for many locals while serving fresh and flavorful fare to new patrons alike.

The menu is a showcase of time-tested favorites such as the Udang Rebus (steamed prawns), Cumi Ala Jun Njan (signature squid), and the Fried Crab prepared Jun Njan style. These dishes highlight the restaurant’s expertise in seafood, emphasizing freshness and well-balanced flavors. Complementing these are stir-fried vegetables like Kailan with oyster sauce and hearty mains including Sapi Lada Hitam (black pepper beef) and their distinctive Nasi Goreng Jun Njan, a rich fried rice that many guests return for.

Jun Njan’s location in the bustling heart of Jakarta offers a somewhat quieter retreat within its walls. The restaurant features a VIP room on the second floor, ideal for patrons seeking intimacy and privacy amidst the city’s pace. Though parking can be a challenge during busy hours, the overall spatial design caters well to families, small groups, and those familiar with the restaurant’s long-standing reputation.

What sets Jun Njan apart is its steadfast commitment to traditional flavors, evident in signature dishes like the deep-fried carp with sweet and sour sauce and savory soups such as Sop ISID Asparagus. The Sapo Tahu and Pu Yung Hai provide comforting warmth, balancing the heavier seafood plates. Regulars appreciate the prompt service and the careful attention to maintaining seafood quality, particularly the steamed shrimps and fresh crabs.

The dining atmosphere unfolds a vintage charm, reflecting its storied history. Despite some observations about aging decor and service inconsistencies, the essence of Jun Njan lies in its food and the memories it stirs. It appeals primarily to long-time fans who cherish the classic Chinese Indonesian seafood experience and to those who seek authentic flavors away from fast-changing trends.

While some reviewers suggest visiting their branches in malls for more contemporary settings, Jun Njan’s original location remains a meaningful culinary landmark. For diners craving fresh seafood prepared with a consistent, traditional touch and a taste of Jakarta’s rich culinary heritage, Jun Njan Restaurant remains a worthy stop. Preordering popular items like steamed shrimp is advisable to ensure availability during evening hours.

Been a long while since we dined at this restaurant. Tonight we enjoyed the “Jun Njan” fried rice, steamed prawns, squid, and stir fried beef with “kailan” veggie. All tasty and delicious. Fast service and fairly priced

A respectable establishment, they closed several branches in the mall so it's getting hard to dine with them. This place is very typical chinese restaurant with nice and quiet vip room at second floor, very good chinese foods especially the fried rice, the tofu and very fresh shrimp & crab. Parking can be quite a challenge if the place is filled up.

Old time classic. Excellent steamed shrimps and squid cooked in sauce. Soup sweet sour nice addition. As vegetable Kailan in oyster sauce always a treat. They close early at 20.30. Shrimps should be pre ordered by phone as they are mostly sold out if you get there after 18.30.

Great food. Just as I remembered it from my teenage years. However, I guess due to the restaurant opening chains in malls and the actual customer base moving to the suburbs, the place was quite empty. A shame really as the decor really is not made for it and starting to show its age. Also the servers were not quite up to recent standards for service and cleanliness. I would recommend you go to the branches in the various malls instead. There is nothing special enough here to make it a must visit.

Still as good as used to be. This classic chinese restaurant always brings memories as our family used to eat here in old days together. The Njunjan squids still the best. Steamed shrimps is also good. Black pepper chili crab, gurame tausi, and the fried noodles are all delicious. We just a bit annoyed with the resto manager, who just sat there and bossing around without even helping the waiters.

One of best authentic chinese restaurants you can find in Jakarta. Established in 60s and claimed to be one of the best in town. Do try the squid, roasted duck, frog meat with salted vegetables, salted egg prawn , eel fry with vegetable is really good! The ambience could be noisy and limited space to park your car if you drive. Very centrally located in the down town Jakarta within the Chinatown vicinity.

A restaurant with a modern Chinese atmosphere serving classic Chinese cuisine prepared by experienced chefs considering that this restaurant is almost 70 years old (established since 1956). This restaurant serves a variety of dishes that can be selected and ordered by visitors. For the taste of this restaurant's cuisine, five stars are deserved.
